The Cumberland Plateau borders Rhea County to the west & runs through Tennessee roughly midway between Knoxville and Nashville. At nearly 2000 feet in elevation the Cumberland Plateau keeps summers cool, but the winters remain mild. With the breathtaking views & babbling creeks most people who visit decide to stay permanently.

There are several state parks located along the Cumberland Plateau. One of the largest & closest parks to Rhea County is Fall Creek Falls State Park. This  is one of the most spectacular recreation areas in America. Its waterfalls, cascades, sparkling streams, gorges, and timberland have made it one of the most popular parks in the Southeast. Fall Creek Falls is the highest waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains, plunging 256 feet into a shaded pool at the base of its gorge. The park's other falls, Piney, Cane Creek, and Cane Creek Cascades, though smaller, are just as impressive.
